Sam Koch Signs Five Year Deal With the Ravens

Just when the excitement was finally dying down contracting Billy Cundiff for another five years, it was announced yesterday that Sam Koch will also officially be with us for five years! Ravens fans don't need me to tell them what great news this is!

According to the Ravens press release: "Koch finished the 2010 campaign with 39 punts inside the 20-yard line, which was second-most in the league and sixth-best all-time. For his career, Koch owns the Ravens’ record with 149 punts inside the 20."

Koch and his agent are both apparently very pleased with the contract and feel that the Ravens really stepped up. The contract was reached after a few rounds of late night negotiations and Koch's agent called him in the middle of the night to deliver the good news.

According to the press release from the National Football Post: "Ever since Sam's rookie deal expired, he wanted a long-term contract with the Ravens. His first choice was always to stay in Baltimore, and the Ravens made sure that happened. Most importantly, he'll be playing in Baltimore for the next five years," Steve Mudder said. (Koch's Agent)

The National Football Post press release also indicated that While Koch and his family and friends are surely excited, the celebratory feelings are certainly mutual on behalf of the Ravens staff.

“We believe that we have the best punter and holder in the NFL, and we wanted to make sure he stayed a Raven,” coach John Harbaugh said. “Sam is a hard worker, a solid person and a great family man. He represents the Ravens and the City of Baltimore very well. I am proud and happy that he will be a big part of where we are taking our team.”

I am certainly glad that our dynamic special teams duo will return to the field together for the next five years! Their value to the team was evident this year and we are lucky that we are able to hold onto them!
