National Football Post Power Rankings

Ravens climb up a spot this week!
NFP Power Rankings | National Football Post

Even With Injuries, Baltimore Still Predicted to Win!!

Before last week, it would have been an easy choice picking Baltimore over Pittsburgh. If the Ravens can get injured players like Oher (knee), Chester (skin disease), fullback Le'Ron McClain (ankle) and safety Dawan Landry (concussion) healthy, the Ravens will beat the Steelers because Pittsburgh can't contain the Ravens' pass rush. Simply put, the Steelers can't score and the Ravens have enough firepower to control the clock. If the injured players don't play, Pittsburgh might pull out the victory. Prediction: Ravens 17, Pittsburgh 14.

Offensive Line Facing Potential Shakeups

“No matter who you have in there on the offensive line, there are going to be times when they’re going to get theirs and they’re going to make plays,” said Flacco, who has taken 23 sacks all season. “We’ll be ready for that no matter what. We’ll do our things to make sure we game plan for it and protect ourselves.”

Injury Update: Oher, McClain and Landry Uncertain

Towels or No Towels?

“It’s more about being Sunday night on national television and giving the fans the opportunity to show how special they are to the huge audience,” says Ravens Vice President Kevin Byrne. “TV doesn’t capture the sound of the enthusiasm. It does capture what can be seen. Historically, our fans have leaped at opportunities like these and have been noted during these telecasts. We think that will happen again this Sunday.”

Ever Wonder How the Ravens-Steelers Rivalry Began?

"The coaches hate each other, the players hate each other... There's no calling each other after the game and inviting each other out to dinner.  But the feeling's mutual: They don't like us, and we don't like them.  There's no need to hide it, they know it, and we know it.  It's going to be one of those black and blue games."

Don’t Dare Call Ray Lewis ‘old man’ Even at 35

“I don’t look past tomorrow. That’s my message not just to football players, but people in general. We rush to tomorrow so quickly, we forget about living in today. Right now it’s about today, and right now we’re 7-3 and sit in a heck of a position. And I’ve got a heck of a team on my shoulders that I’d go to battle with any day of the week. That’s my job as a leader, to get us ready to go.”

Ravens Are Positioned Well For a Playoff Run

Tied atop the AFC North with the Steelers, the Ravens (7-3) are positioning themselves for a potential home playoff game. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=nfp-20101123_ravens_positioned_well_for_playoff_run

Can the Ravens Continue to Defend Their Turf?

The final stretch of the Ravens schedule may afford them 4 home games out of their final 6, but these home games will certainly be demanding ones! Luckily, no one has been tougher at home than the Ravens recently. Their seven-game winning streak at M&T Bank Stadium is the NFL's longest current one and with a win over Tampa Bay on Sunday the Ravens would tie the best home streak in team history. Harbaugh "broached" subject of reducing Lewis' snaps

“He’s humble enough to say, ‘The time is going to come,’ and he also is humble enough to admit that he won’t be the first one to recognize it, that I’ll be the first one to recognize it as the coach,” Harbaugh said Monday. “Now, whether we agree exactly at that point in time … but let’s just say it’s five years from now. Maybe it’s when he’s 40 years old we have to have that conversation. We’ll probably have a little fight, and I might lose at first. But ultimately, I think he’ll be willing to cut down on the number of snaps and keep playing and extend his career and help the team any way he can. That’s just who Ray is.” - John Harbaugh

Fans Follow the Ravens to Carolina!

One of the most talked about aspects of the Ravens win in Carolina yesterday is the number of fans that showed up to cheer them on! According to the Baltimore Sun's 11-year NFL writer Jamison Hensely, Ravens fans made up about 40% of the 73,021 attendance. Many have said that this is the largest turn out of Ravens fans at a regular-season away game.
The players themselves seemed blown away by the support and took to Twitter to express their appreciation! Check out some of their Tweets below!
RayRice27: "Ravens fans are the best it felt like a home game today with all the Raven fans that came down to Charlotte thanks for the love and support"
LeRonMcClain33: "S/O to all the fans at the game. Made it feel like a home game. Best fans in league!! !!"

My Thoughts on Today's Win

I mentioned in a post earlier this week that I think it is important to counter criticism with respect for all of the good things that happen each game. I think today Ravens fans can agree that we owe a whole lot of respect to our defense.

Following the past few games there has been a lot of negative light shed on the defense. They certainly did blow the teams lead in the past few games, most notably in Atlanta where it ended up costing them the game. It didn’t sit well with me to hear people questioning the defensive unit when that is one thing that we have always been known for.

Today however, the defense stole the show. When the score got to be a little too close for comfort, the defense swept in and gave us all reason to exhale and relax.

When Ed Reed made his interception and lateral pass to Dawan Landry, I died. Landry scored the first defensive touchdown of the season giving the Ravens a comfortable cushion and a 17-point lead.

A mere 11 seconds later, Ray Lewis scored his first touchdown since the 2003 season. After picking off baby daddy Brian St. Pierre, Ray Lewis gave us our final certainty that we were definitely in control of the game.

We can look at Baltimore’s track record for away games and see that they certainly seem a little slow at the start and gain momentum as the game progresses. Today however, they showed up the minute the clock started.

Flacco’s whopping 56-yard pass to T.J. Houshmandzadeh on only their second play of the game capped them a nice 7-point lead. Their offensive energy was pretty strong throughout the entire first half actually and it was exciting to see Ray Rice back to his old tricks, scoring his third touchdown of the season!

The beginning of the second half the Ravens took the field with 17-3 lead.

Despite the fact that the Panthers weren’t posting any big numbers up on the scoreboard, the Ravens just couldn’t seem to shake them throughout the entirety of the game.

They finally legitimately made their presence known at the beginning of the fourth quarter when St. Pierre launched a massive pass to David Gettis who ran the ball for a long touchdown, scorching Josh Wilson as he went.

At the end of the day, none of the little snafus matter too much as the Ravens are now en route to Baltimore with another win in their possession. The win marks their first ever against the Carolina Panthers.

After today’s game, the Ravens are still the leaders of the pack and will begin their preparation to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday in Baltimore.

**I was lucky enough to catch a high school game while I was home earlier this fall and saw Deemer Class of Loyola Blakefield play for the first time! I will be watching the game with him home in Baltimore next weekend along with my family and cannot wait! In discussing today’s game with him he offered the following shoutout:
“I want to give it up to Ray and Ed for two big plays. The heart of the defense came up big as the team prepares for a big run down the stretch.”

Thanks Deemer! I love hearing from the guys out there and hope to incorporate more of their input and commentary so send me your thoughts!

I May Stand Alone Here in Pennsylvania Football Country, But I Stand Proud! GAME DAY! LETS GO RAVENS!

In a few short hours I will be indulging in what has become my favorite Sunday past time, WATCHING THE RAVENS. I'm about to go deck out in my purple "Boh Knows Baltimore Football" t-shirt and of course my bright purple Baltimore Ravens sweatshirt. I'm sure this makes for quite the joke as I stroll in to the gym pre-game as most of the guys there are decked out in their Steelers, Eagles, or Giants gear. Being the lone Ravens fan is something that used to make me a little sad. I remember at home when Sundays meant that people wore their jerseys to church and there was barely a car on the road as soon as kick off occurred as everyone glued to the TV. I am so excited to be going home next week for Thanksgiving where I will be able to enjoy my family's company for the holiday as well as on SUNDAY, GAME DAY! As we start to think about the things we are thankful for this week, think about the buddies you watch the game with or just the entire Ravens fan base as a whole. We are so lucky to have such an awesome team to root for, such a loyal fan base to cheer with, and such great friends to knock back a cold one with and enjoy some good football.

Check back later today for highlights and analysis!

Players and coaches comment as the Ravens prepare to take on the Carolina Panthers!

Baltimore Ravens | Media | .com Exclusive: Game Preview: Ravens at Panthers

The Panthers are a flat out inferior opponent that the Ravens should chew up and spit out. No excuses

"The Ravens have had 10 days to rest and prepare to play the worst team in the league.  Carolina’s starting quarterback and running backs are both on the I.R.  The Panthers will start a former Ravens backup, Brian St. Pierre (of fond memory), at quarterback, a career clip board holder who has thrown a grand total of 5 regular season passes.  If the Ravens are half as hacked as I am over the Atlanta game, they should come out smoking on Sunday.  Even if they’re not, they should still make this a mercy killing (metaphorically).  The Panthers are a flat out inferior opponent that the Ravens should chew up and spit out.  No excuses."

“I already believe I am the best linebacker in the game. Now, I have to show one more thing. That I am the most dominating, influential person in the game and the best football player to ever put on a pair of cleats.”

^ Ray Lewis

Alright so heres the deal... everyone was a little down last week after the cheap loss to the Falcons and one too many tried to pin the blame on the defense. I think sometimes we fail to recognize the extreme pressure that these guys are under as we sit on our comfy sofas and criticize their play. I'm not saying that it isn't justified sometimes... but I think we need to counter by paying respect where respect is due. So my respect this week is going out to the one, the only Ray Lewis. I feel like there isn't a player out there who works harder to fire his team up. I have picked 2 videos to pay tribute to Ray Ray so enjoy his awesome-ness and get pumped for the return of THE BEST defense in the NFL this weekend in Carolina!

Ravens Prepare for St. Pierre

“Great guy, great quarterback,” tight end Todd Heap said . “We’ve seen him play over the years. He’s a guy that we kind of know what he’s capable of. We’ve seen what he can do, his arm strength."

I mean up until last Friday he was a stay-at-home dad... he was only promoted to the active roster Tuesday.
He didn't go through training camp.
He will only have 4 practices to prepare for the Ravens.

Not to get to cocky here but does it really seem like there is that much to "prepare" for?

Baltimore Ravens Defense Ranked 10th in the NFL!

Wasn't it only a week ago that the Ravens were getting a whole lotta heat about their defense? New rankings indicate that Baltimore's defense is ranked 10th in the NFL putting them in the top third of the league! In looking at their performance over the course of the season, it really isn't fair to pin so much blame on them! Up until the game against Atlanta they had been doing pretty well. Baltimore's defense has always been viewed as a force to be reckoned with so maybe we are looking at a return to that reputation!

I know that this video is in a previous post of mine but in tribute to the teams ranking I felt the need to once again pay tribute to the "Death On Wings" that is the Baltimore Ravens defense!

Flacco is "going to continue to grow as a leader"

According to offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, Joe Flacco is still growing into his position as team leader. Flacco isn't generally known for his ability to get the team fired up and is often overshadowed by louder leaders like Ray Lewis and more recently Anquan Boldin. Cameron believes that the ability to take charge and exert leadership is something that is traditionally seen in the behavior of veteran players. I think that Flacco definitely has the potential to be a real leader he just seems flat personality wise. I am only going off of interviews I've seen but he could use a little more enthusiasm. As he grows into the role of a veteran player on the team I'm sure his confidence will grow as well and he will be able to take some cues from players like Ray Lewis in terms of getting the team stoked! Want to read the full story?

Thursday's Injury Report

Injury reports are so nerve-wracking to look at! It always freaks me out when I see the name of a star player reported as not having practiced! Here's to hoping for speedy recoveries and full participation for these guys in Sunday's game!

- Cornerback Fabian Washington (illness) was downgraded to no participation after being limited yesterday.
- Free safety Tom Zbikowski (bruised right heel) sat out his second consecutive practice.
- Tight end Todd Heap (chest) was limited for the second straight day
- Linebacker Tavares Gooden (head) was upgraded from limited to full participation.
